After three decades in the cosmetics industry, creating successful products and brands globally, Harriet Ploeger felt it was time to develop a skincare brand that truly meets the latest standards in formula development, science, and research, developing Melumé Skinscience.
Skindays: What inspired you to start Melumé Skinscience?
Harriet Ploeger: After three decades in the cosmetics industry, creating successful products and brands globally, I felt it was time to develop a skincare brand that truly meets the latest standards in formula development, science, and research. Frustrated with deceptive marketing and false promises, especially in the luxury skincare sector, I made it my mission to empower customers with the truth and transparency about our ingredients and to show real results based on our science-based approach.
SD: Fun fact about your brand?
HP: We want to emphasise that our team of experienced beauty professionals is passionate about skincare and has a long history of working together in various roles and endeavours. Now, we are finally working together to make our shared dream come true, all while having a lot of fun building the brand.
SD: How does your brand combine natural ingredients with scientific innovation?
HP: We create our biomimetic, bioavailable products by combining the safest and most effective elements from science and nature. Through biotechnology, we enhance the potential of natural ingredients to produce high-performance products. Each product contains our exclusive GMOD™ Complex, which consists of potent plant cell cultures obtained through patented extraction technology.
We are committed to using a high percentage of natural ingredients combined with scientifically researched cosmeceutical ingredients to address a wide range of skin concerns and deliver the best results possible.
SD: What does the Melumé GMOD™ COMPLEX do for your skin?
HP: The GMOD™ Complex helps moisturise the skin surface and depth and increase suppleness and resistance. It stimulates hyaluronic neosynthesis and sustains its turnover. Improves skin elasticity, firmness, and the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging: providing complete 360° rejuvenation by increasing the expression of youth proteins. Provides a multi-dimensional photo-aging defense and detoxifies cells.
SD: What are the top 3 ingredients in skincare you love? And how have you used them in your products?
HP: My top 3 ingredients are the Encapsulated time-released Retinol Microspheres, Galactomyces and our GMOD™ Complex stemming from biotechnology.
We formulated our Retinol Stick with Encapsulated time-released Retinol Microspheres to ensure that the micro-spheres reach the epidermis and are progressively opened by the activity of many different skin enzymes and gradually release retinol. This slow membrane digestion leads to a slow release of encapsulated retinol for better bioavailability, efficacy, and less irritation. The retinol thus contacts the skin and diffuses throughout the day.
Galactomyces can be found in our water-free Niacinamide Galactomyces Serum. It’s a special kind of yeast that contains abundant minerals, vitamins, and amino acids and increases skin moisture immediately. The exfoliating effect makes skin look finer, healthy, and supple. It replenishes the natural skin barrier and enhances the appearance of a soft and clear complexion.
GMOD™ Complex is in all our products and is a combination of Melilotus Officinalis – a patented peptide, Dolichos Biflorus – an active ingredient obtained from the Dolichos plant cell cultures and Glycokines – oligosaccharides of acetylated glucuronic acid.
SD: One key takeaway you want your customers to remember?
HP: Our ultimate goal is to develop biomimetic, bioavailable, science-based skincare with active ingredients in high concentrations to give you real results which transcends age, skin tone, and gender.
SD: Any products you are currently working on, a bit of a sneak peek?
HP: Our labs are currently working and testing new formulations, ingredients and delivery technologies to make sure that results of our future launches are guaranteed. One thing I can already tell you – the next one is going to completely erase hyperpigmentation. Even the stubborn ones.
